“You can go higher, deeper..” That’s what she said

Porn movie title or American Idol coronation song? Unfortunately the latter. Actually, I wanted to make the headline for this blog  “kara-dioguardi-stinks-up-american-idol-final-with-horrid-songwriting” but I just couldn’t resist the Michael Scott quip. I can live with the permalink.

I remember seeing a poll on CNN a long time ago where people were asked to vote for the worst song ever. I believe the winner was “These Boots Were Made for Walkin’” by Nancy Sinatra. Well move over Nancy, because Kara Dioguardi and her crack squad of “songwriters” have all but guaranteed future consideration for that dubious distinction with the pathetic stinker-of-a-coronation song Adam Lambert and Kris Allen were likely coerced into singing in tonight’s American Idol final.

Dude, what the fack was that anyways?   I guess it wasn’t enough that Dioguardi and her fellow hit-makers (apparently it took four people to write this stinker??) wrote what likely was the worst “melody” ever constructed; they also botched the title. No Boundaries? What, like Wal Mart’s signature clothing line name? Worse, the melody covered so much range that neither a straight or gay man could sing it comfortably. Apparently the “no boundaries” paradigm didn’t apply to the songwriting process for Kara and her team when they were writing melodies for guys in the fifth octave.

Anyways here are the lyrics. If this smoldering can of hot tuna juice from the pen of Kara Dioguardi  doesn’t disqualify her from being a judge of musical talent, I can’t imagine what would.

No Boundaries by Kara DioGuardi (”Kara’s Song”)

Seconds hours so many days
You know what you want but how long can you wait
Every moment last forever if you feel you’ve lost your way
What if your chances are already gone
Started believing that I could be wrong
But you give me one good reason
to fight and never walk away

Coz hear I am — still holding on!

Every step you climb another mountain
Every breathe its harder to believe

You’ll make it through the pain (or through all your aches and pains)
Weather the hurricane
To get to that one thing

When you think the road is going nowhere
Just when you’ve almost gave up on your dreams
Then take it by the hand and show you that you can

You can go higher
You can go deeper
There are no boundaries
Above and beneath you
B-reak every rule coz there’s nothing between you
and your dreams

Every step you climb another mountain
Every breathe its harder to believe
